One year ago, the Swedish Women’s Lobby and the European Network of Migrant Women initiated the establishment of a new global women’s organisation to unite and advance the international women’s movement. This initiative arose from the recognition of the persistent discrimination, inequality, violence, and oppression faced by women and girls worldwide.
Women’s Platform for Action International (WoPAI) reaffirms our unwavering commitment to the realisation of women’s rights as human rights. The organisation is dedicated to advancing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA), in alignment with the principles and objectives outlined in these landmark frameworks.
WoPAI envisions a world where women and girls fully realise our human rights and freedoms, where our inherent dignity is upheld, and where our equal rights are recognised as fundamental to achieving freedom, justice, and peace. We are committed to creating a world where women’s lives are not constrained by violence or discrimination.
In this spirit, we invite women’s organisations from all countries that share these principles to join us as members in advancing this crucial agenda.
We are pleased to announce the official launch of Women’s Platform for Action International (WoPAI) on 10 March in New York during CSW69. The event will be held at the Church of Sweden, 5 East 48th Street, New York, from 3-5 pm EST. The program consists of speakers such as Gertrud Astrom, Tatiana Kotlyarenko, Adama Sira Le Blay, Athena Davis and Olga Persson among others.
